Daily Devotional Entry#124:

Light In Darkness- “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”- John 1: 4-5 (NIV)

Q & A?:

Reflect on a time you felt enveloped by darkness, whether literally or metaphorically. Even in that seemingly absolute darkness, can you recall any flicker of light, however small – a glimmer of hope, a moment of resilience, a whisper of faith? What did that tiny beam reveal to you about the nature of darkness and the persistent presence of light?

My answer:

There were times when darkness felt like a crushing weight, especially during my daughter's health scare, the temporary loss of my children, and the harsh breakup that upended my life. It felt like the sun had gone out.

But even then, there were tiny sparks. With my daughter, it was fierce love and prayer. During custody, it was the belief in reunion. Even in heartbreak and displacement, a whisper of hope remained, and my ability to connect with others offered small glimmers. Streaming initially felt like a sign of something more, a light I had to choose to follow by speaking up for God.

My current relationship, though challenging and facing external resistance, has also been a source of light, with God consistently having our backs. Even when I felt close to giving up on what we were building, that small flicker of hope and faith reappeared.

Those tiny beams revealed the tenacity of light, even in deep darkness. God's presence was a constant, redirecting my path. Now, with my partner, building a future, I see that even the deepest darkness couldn't extinguish that light. Those sparks were His persistent glow, assuring me that dawn would break. It's like the verse says: even in darkness, light shines, and darkness can't overcome it. That small flicker was always there.

Heavenly Father, in moments when darkness threatens to overwhelm us, we thank You for the persistent flicker of Your light. Thank You for the sparks of hope, resilience, and faith that pierce through the shadows, reminding us of Your constant presence. Strengthen our trust in Your unwavering light, even amidst trials and tribulations. May we always recognize Your hand guiding us, leading us towards Your love and a brighter future. Amen.
